Conflicts, extreme weather events, and rising inequality are hindering progress in accelerating economic growth and eradicating poverty, hunger and malnutrition, and are exacerbated by reductions in international development assistance and growing geopolitical tensions. Although national policies are of tantamount importance for addressing food system challenges, international and regional collaboration and consensus remain essential in a complex world.
Please join us for the launch of IFPRI’s 2025 fiftieth anniversary edition of its flagship Global Food Policy Report, which examines the evolution of food policy research and considers how food policy research can better equip policymakers to meet future challenges and opportunities. Speakers will examine the role of evidence in shaping policies over the past 50 years and focus on research and policy agendas for food systems in the decades to come.
The event will also explore how innovations, including policy solutions, can be effectively scaled up for impact, featuring a keynote lecture by Michael Kremer, Chair of the Innovation Commission, and joint winner of the 2019 Economics Nobel Prize. With a mission rooted in delivering evidence-based solutions and working in partnership with governments, implementing organizations and funders at the local, national, regional and international level, IFPRI’s research has aimed at transforming systems that affect both people and the planet. In today’s context, with pressing global development challenges at hand, the need for sharply prioritized, evidence-informed actions is even more pressing. This is the first in a series of events and other engagements to showcase the importance of food policy research in shaping policies and action for a better world, as we mark this important milestone for IFPRI.
