IFPRI’s Ghana office hosted a two-day capacity building workshop on “Building a Social Accounting Matrix for Ghana” from 6-7 February 2023. The workshop was held under the auspices of the IFPRI-led Nexus Project, which aims to improve the quality of SAMs used for computable general equilibrium (CGE) modeling. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and the Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER). Workshop participants were introduced to the Nexus SAM-Building Toolkit. Participants also reviewed data sources used to build a new Ghana SAM with base year 2019. This SAM is an update of the 2015 Ghana SAM, which is published on the GSS website, and was developed and launched jointly by GSS, ISSER, and IFPRI in 2017. The hope is to launch the 2019 Ghana SAM by the end of the first quarter this year following a data validation exercise held on 7th March 2023 and further refinements.
