GSSP in collaboration with the Statistical Research and Information Department (SRID) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) organized and co-hosted a two-day capacity development workshop on 27-28 February 2019 on agricultural commodity market analysis. The workshop focused on price determination, price transmission effects across markets, measuring and responding to price variability, and analyzing seasonal price patterns. The event formed part of an AGRA-funded initiative to strengthen analytical capacity, institutions and systems for improved monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the country’s flagship agriculture sector intervention, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ). The training was motivated by the fact that major agricultural interventions such as PFJ could have significant effects on agricultural commodity price levels or their seasonal patterns. Early detection of irregulararities could help policymakers identify market constraints. The 27 participants included representatives from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Ghana Grains Council (GGC), Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), University of Ghana, and MoFA.
