FAO Reports That There has Been A Fall In Global Food Prices
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Food Price Index dropped for fourth month in a row in August, reaching its lowest level since June 2012. The index, which measures the monthly change in the international prices of a basket of food commodities, averaged 201.8 points in August 2013, nearly four points below its July value and 11 points less than in August 2012. Systems of land tenure are location specific and cannot be generalized for a particular country, as the diverse social systems at the different parts of the country have specific tenure arrangements. This article discusses the results of a descriptive survey that was conducted in the Ahafo-Ano South, Atwima Nwabiagya and Amansie-West districts of the Ashanti region of Ghana to assess the effect of land tenure systems on the development o f sawah among rice farmers. The purpose of the Golinga Rice-fish farming project was to improve the capacities of members of a Farmer Based Organization (FBO) to carry out environmentally friendly, sustainable rural farming business using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques at the Golinga Irrigation Project (GIP) in northern Ghana. This book documents the proof of the Integrated Agricultural Research for Development (IAR4D) Concept that was developed by the Forum for Agricultural research for Development in Africa (FARA). The IAR4D concept forms the basis for the Sub Saharan Africa Challenge Program (SSA CP) which is the only CGIAR Challenge program that was limited to only one region in the world. The focus of the SSA CP program was to facilitate substantially greater impact from agricultural research for development leading to improved rural livelihoods, increased food security and sustainable natural resource management throughout Sub Saharan Africa.
