Pollination to Enhance Sustainable Food Security

A Global Initiative Project that seeks to conserve and manage pollinators to sustain agriculture to enhance global food security is being carried out by the United Nations Environment Program's (UNEP) as part of its commitment to sustain global environmental agenda.
The UNEP steered the new global initiative based on research on how pollinators could aid food production and also help conserve the environment. The research led to the discovery that pollination was a crucial element in reproduction of about 75 per cent of most plants....

ILO Launches support to stop Child Labor on Cocoa Farms in 3 districts

The International Labor Organization (ILO), through its International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor (IPEC) has commissioned a two year project to assist the government of Ghana to reduce child labor to the barest minimum.
The project dubbed “Support for the Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labor in the Cocoa sector” was launched in Juaboso last Friday, January 21st 2011.

Ejura, a major district of the relatively rich Ashanti Region, has a vast acreage of fertile land, which supports the cultivation of crops and rearing of animals.
It is for this reason the government set up a state-owned farm decades ago at Ejura for the development of food crops, cereals, legumes and vegetables. It is therefore a market center and anyone who visits the town on Mondays will be fascinated by the stockpile of food crops and fleet of cars that have arrived at Ejura to cart food crops to major cities in Ghana, which has a population of 24 million.
A striking situation in the area is that, amid abundance of food, most people especially children are malnourished.
